Bloody Boat!

Ah the boat. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it.

See living in a flat was always just alright, not hugely exciting but then pretty reliable. I mean its always in the same place, there’s always water coming out of the taps and always warm when you get home.

The boat is a lot different, it’s never just alright it’s either absolutely amazing or absolutely fucking infuriating. Mostly that’s because I’m renting someone elses boat but it’s also because I’m not permanently moored.

Not being permanently moored is great, because you can shoot off all over the place, you meet loads of different people and make friends. It’s also the most stupid thing in the world because you don’t have anywhere to park a car, you’ve got to learn 100 different routes to work, you have no power, no permanent water supply and can only stay put for two weeks.

I have a list of things in my head that I would change about the boat if it were mine, they’re little things, but the things that matter. There are switches in stupid places. Fuses that you need to dismantle half the boat to get to. Doors that you’ve got to lock in a certain order. Bits of floor that don’t really fit correctly and of course the landlords bike that attaches itself to me every morning as I squeeze out of the engine room.

The whole point is to see if I can live on board a boat or not. Try it out for six months and to that effect it’s all going to plan. I already know after just three weeks that if I carry this on after the spring then I need a full-time mooring with a water supply and a boat that doesn’t do my head in as much.

Either that or I need a new job. The boat does demand a bit of time.

Having said that… last night was a definite “up” moment and I’ve definitely got better at ruling the boat. Glory days!

I got back late, heating on, fire lit and with tunes on the radio, watched the snow fall :-)
