DHL – Address Information Needed Hello there! I was working on Saturday afternoon, providing network support for a project at work that was finally “going live”. As usual with these things for the most part it went as planned and I only had to make a couple of firewall-rule changes for hosts and ports that none of the server or app teams had previously thought about. No stress. This meant that for most of the four-ish hours I was there, I was actually doing other things. Mainly these other things were other bits of work but it was a Saturday after all and having spent the morning cruising around on the boat, drinking tea I wasn’t in the work mood and kept drifting into a bit of aimless web surfing. This eventually lead to me buying a Nexus 1. The Nexus 1 is a new phone that Google are flogging and I’d been thinking about ordering for a week, reasoning that I could cover most of the £400 asking price by mazuma mobiling three old phones and that the extra £130 quid I’d have to cough up was really not worth worrying about. Especially for the advantage of having a phone that actually fucking works. I’ll tell myself anything. As a sort of side note, Sean pointed out that I’d happily spunk £100 up the wall on an evening out, so what the fuck was I penny pinching for. Good point. Feel free to tell yourself this the next time you want to stick £400 on your credit card. So it was ordered and half an hour later there was no going-back, I got a DHL tracking number and I watched it go from Indianapolis to Cincinnati, sit in “the Cincinnati hub” for six hours then zoom off to the UK. All. Very. Exciting. Then I got up this morning to find the following bit of confusing information on my screen. “Address information needed; Contact DHL customer services”. So I rang them up using the number provided, went through a whole world of ballz with automated voice prompts and eventually explained the situation to a young man who told me I’d rung the wrong number. Bastard. Take heed. for UK to UK deliveries you want to call 0844 248 0555 but for *international* to UK you need 0844 248 0844. This information might save a life. Anyhow when I got through to the new number the puzzled lady at the other end said that the address looked fine but she asked me to re-confirm everything anyway, fine. Then she assured me that “it will go out to Lambeth today?”. Oh. You know in that annoying way that students and Australians speak? So thinking about it I’m not sure if that was a question or a statement? Yeah? This one time? At bandcamp? So really I don’t know if it’s coming or not but at least they have my address again. Watch this space in the coming days for some bitching about the useless phone I’ve ordered from Google.
