I have sold the fletchmobile Yep it’s true the epic fletchmobile has gone. I’ve had a fine old couple of years with the beast but since I barely ever need to drive anywhere it wasn’t worth the old-car upkeep. Time for something newer that needs less looking after and that I don’t have to worry about when I dump it in a dodgy back-alley somewhere near a canal…
The idea of replacing it with an Impreza has gone right out of the fucking window I can tell you. I had hoped that at 29 I was coming to the end of my tenure as an insurance-company bitch, paying out a fortune each year for quite sensibly chosen cars (£780 for a twelve year old 980cc nissan micra when I was 20 being a highlight) but unfortunately not.
The bastards want an average of £1600 off me this year if I buy a Subaru so given the choice of spending a week sat in the drivers seat wanking one off over the steering wheel or a week on an Antiguan beach drinking rum from a coconut… that insurance money is going straight to Richard Branson and I’m buying a cheaper car. Think it’ll probably be a 330Ci. Where are my bermudas?

The insurance mob must think you leave your car unlocked on a "Please steal me" plinth in a darkened alleyway in the roughest part of town to get those quotes. At 29 I was paying about £800 for the Evo with it parked on the street in a not-too-groovy part of Glasgow. Thankfully, now I'm rapidly approaching 40 and live in the quiet countryside I can insure almost any car for less than £400. Of course, I now have kids so can't justify an Evo or similar nowadays. The FSM giveth, and he fucking well makes sure he taketh aswell :( Still, when the kids are both in school and we're not having to pay £14k a year for nursery the missus is well aware that we'll be moving from diesel MPV-ville to AMG Merc or M5 Touring land. Enjoy the 330Ci, or whatever comes along. Hope you don't miss the Six too much.
