Way back in 2005 I quit my job and went traveling. Fletch.cx accurately documented almost my every move so that others could see what I was up to.
The Planned Route:
New York, Boston, Montreal, Vancouver, Auckland, Bangkok, Chaing-Mai, Cheng-Do, Lhasa, Kathmandu, Cape Town. All by plane.
The actual route (ish)
New York, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Niagra, Quebec City, Mont Tremblant, Val David, Vancouver, Victoria, Tofino, Nanaimo, Prince Rupert, Port Hardy, Seattle, Nelson, Auckland, Wellington, Nelson, Ross, Wanaka, Queenstown, Oamaru, Dunedin, Christchurch, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Cheng-Do, Lhasa, Shigatse, Gyantse, Everest Base Camp, Kathmandu and Cape-Town. By plane, train, bus, car, van, bicycle, skateboard and elephant. Two road-trips and a ferry that sank. I only crashed one car, took one major plane diversion and managed not to lose any luggage!
The best bit about traveling was the people I met and the best thing about getting back was realising that if you want you can easily still see them again. Fairly regularly I’ve met up with the likes of Swiss Andy and Milan Baros, even Aston Villa came to Bolton for a few beers on my return.
The videos!
The links below are to the amazing fletch.cx “On The Road” video diaries!! Ha. Part one was released on 26 October 2005, 47 days after I set off, the others have appeared at sporadic intervals since then. They were all made whilst I traveled, a bit like Hemmingways diaries only without any of the writing. All are now hosted on video.fletch.cx thanks to Vimeo :)
